Team Biographies

Jonathan Harris

Jon is the Chairman of the firm’s Investment Committee and AIM’s Board of Managers.   Jon leads the firm’s investment management activities and the overall strategic direction of the firm.  Prior to joining the firm, Jon managed private investments for J.I. Harris & Associates. Previously, he worked for Goldman Sachs in the firm’s Investment Management Services Group and spent time in its Investment Banking Division in London.  Earlier in his financial services career, Jon served as a principal investment analyst for Madison Dearborn Partners, the private equity firm based in Chicago.  Jon also served as Deputy to the Vice Presidential Campaign Manager for the Dole-Kemp Presidential Campaign in 1996. Prior to that role, he was responsible for the majority party’s issues on the International Finance Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate’s Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.  Jon’s involvement with the UJA Federation of New York has included roles as Co-Chair of the Annual Campaign, member of the Board, member of the Strategic Council of the Wall Street Division, and Co-Chair of the Investment Management Division.  Jon has also served on the board for the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut, as a trustee of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and on the Leadership Council for the Robin Hood Foundation.  Jon is a member of the New York Economic Club and the Chicago Economic Club.  He is also an associate member of Partnership for New York City and a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization.  In addition, he serves on the board of the Child Mind Institute and is an advisor to the University of Michigan Investment Office on Alternative Investments.  Jon earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Diana Cantor

Diana is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and is involved in the strategic direction of the firm’s portfolio management function.  Prior to joining the firm, Diana was a Managing Director at New York Private Bank & Trust before which she served for over a decade as the founding Executive Director of the Virginia College Savings Plan, which she grew to be the largest in the nation with over $27 billion in assets under management at the time of her departure.  Prior to her state service, Diana was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs, serving as Chief Administrator of the firm’s leveraged buyout and internal investment funds and merchant banking operations.  Prior to Goldman Sachs, Diana practiced law in the real estate department of Kaye Scholer.  Diana is affiliated with numerous civic and professional associations including serving as a Board member of 100 Women in Hedge Funds and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.  She is also past Chair of the Richmond Jewish Foundation Investment Committee and the Policy Forum Endowment Fund (supporting foundation of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce), a past member of the Virginia College Savings Plan's Investment Advisory Committee, and an eight-year member of the Virginia State Treasury Board.  Diana is also a director of both private and public companies, including Media General, Inc. and Domino’s Pizza, Inc., where she serves both as the Chairman of the Audit Committees, as well as Universal Corporation (Chairman of the Finance Committee), Edelman Financial Services, LLC (member of the Audit Committee) and Knowledge Universe (member of the Audit Committee).  She is a past director of Revlon, Inc. and The Edelman Financial Group Inc.  In addition, Diana is currently the Vice Chairman and the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Retirement System, the 22nd largest pension plan (public or private) in the country.  Diana is a C.P.A. and member of the State Bars in Virginia, Florida, and New York.  She earned a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Florida, an M.B.A from the University of Miami, and a J.D. from New York University.

William Brown

William is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and focuses on portfolio management and researching managers and investments.  Prior to joining the firm, William was the Chief Investment Officer and Managing Member of Ely Avenue Management, LLC, an independent investment and financial advisory firm.  Previously, he was a Senior Portfolio Manager at Hartz Capital, a privately owned multi-strategy hedge fund associated with the Leonard Stern family office. While at Hartz, William had direct oversight of approximately US $1.0 billion of securities split between external and internal managed strategies.  Prior to joining Hartz, he was a Managing Director at Berenson & Company and a Director of Credit Suisse First Boston’s Telecom and Media Industry Group, specializing in mergers and acquisitions.  He also worked as a Vice President at Lazard Frères and Lehman Brothers, where he focused on the technology, media and telecom sectors. William is an Advisory Board Director with Alegro Capital, a London-based corporate finance and advisory firm. William earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. in Finance and Management from Columbia Business School.

Susan Mays

Susan manages the firm’s investment operations and is responsible for investor relations.  Prior to joining the firm, Susan was an Associate in the Prime Brokerage Division of Goldman Sachs.  Susan is a member of 85 Broads and was the 2012 and 2013 Gala Chair for 100 Women in Hedge Funds. She also serves on the New York Advisory Board for Best Buddies International.  Susan earned her B.S., summa cum laude, in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance, from Susquehanna University.

Peter Brown

Peter manages all aspects of the firm’s legal and compliance function, including participating in investment due diligence, overseeing the firm’s fund-related legal work, and serving as Chief Compliance Officer. Prior to joining the firm, Peter was a Partner at Meridian Capital Partners where he managed the firm’s legal and compliance team and served as head of investor relations and business development. Prior to spending over a decade at Meridian, Peter worked as an Associate General Counsel for The Ayco Company, a financial services firm that provides wealth management services to corporate executives and employees. Previously, Peter practiced law at Bond, Schoeneck & King and Willkie Farr & Gallagher. Peter earned his B.A. in English from the University of Notre Dame and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Albany Law School. Peter is a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.

Lee Ehly
Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer

Lee is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee.  He is responsible for firm’s financial operations and oversees manager operational due diligence.  Prior to joining the firm, Lee was the Controller at Hunter Global Investors, a long/short equity hedge fund.  As Controller, he was responsible for the financial and tax reporting of the firm’s funds as well as various operational matters. Previously, Lee was a Senior Accountant/Auditor at Rothstein Kass and PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he performed audit, tax, and accounting services for various hedge funds, funds of hedge funds, and private equity funds. Lee earned his B.S. in Accounting from the Rutgers School of Business and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Seth Balsam
Senior Associate, Controller

Seth is responsible for all performance and financial reporting aspects, including the annual audits, of the firm’s private equity investments.  Prior to joining the firm, Seth was an Associate in the Controllers Division of the Private Equity Group at Goldman Sachs.  In this role, he managed a team responsible for the accounting and operational activities of 19 private equity fund-of-funds families consisting of 75 separate investment vehicles. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Seth was a Senior Associate at KPMG, LLP where he worked on the audits of mutual fund, pharmaceutical, communications and not-for-profit companies. Seth earned his B.S., summa cum laude, in Accounting from Yeshiva University, Sy Syms School of Business.  Seth is a Certified Public Accountant.

Randi Packer
Associate, Controller

Randi is responsible for all performance and financial reporting aspects of the firm’s hedge fund investments and provides operational due diligence support to the firm’s CFO.  Prior the joining the firm, Randi worked as a Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young where she focused on the audits of investment companies, including private equity funds and mutual funds.  Randi earned her B.S. in Accounting from Yeshiva University, Sy Syms School of Business.

Blair Cohen
Associate, Operations

Blair is responsible for managing the firm’s administrative operations and assists the firm’s investor relations and compliance teams. Prior to joining the firm, Blair worked for several investment management firms, including ARX Investment Management, Tokum Capital Management, and Jamison Capital Partners.  Blair began her career in the non-profit sector working at Hadassah – Women’s Zionist Organization of America. Blair earned her B.A. from Quinnipiac University.

Maha Shama
Analyst, Investments

Maha assists with the firm’s investment due diligence and manager research activities. Prior to joining the firm, Maha was a Senior Audit Associate at KPMG LLP, focusing on the asset management industry.  Maha volunteers as a coach with Girls on the Run, a non-profit organization inspiring girls through running.   She graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Accounting and Minor in International Business. 

Megan Protas
Analyst, Investments

Megan assists with the firm’s investment due diligence and manager research activities. Prior to joining the firm, Megan was an Analyst at Willis Re, Inc., focusing on the property and casualty sector and facilitating the day-to-day account management of the firm's clients.  She graduated from Fairfield University with a B.S. in Finance and a minor in Information Systems.

Samantha Jones
Analyst, Investments and Operational Due Diligence

Samantha assists with the firm’s operational due diligence activities. Prior to joining the firm, Samantha was an Investment Analyst at PivotalPath (Americas) LLC, focusing on hedge fund due diligence. She graduated from the University of Richmond with a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics and a minor in Mathematics.

Marie Valentine
Analyst, Client Services

Marie supports the client service function and helps manage and develop the firm's network of corporate executives and investment professionals. Prior to joining the firm, Marie was in operation management at McMaster-Carr managing and improving operational capacity, quality and logistic processes. Before joining McMaster-Carr, she was an Acquisition Analyst at Clarion Partners focusing on acquiring real estate assets for pension fund clients. Marie earned her B.S., magna cum laude, in Policy, Planning and Development and Masters of Urban Planning concentrating on Economic Development from the University of Southern California.

Arhemia Fidai
Executive Assistant

Arhemia supports the firm’s President.  She has assisted CEOs her entire career and has worked at financial management firms such as Arden Asset Management and Hellman & Friedman.  Arhemia began her career supporting the President of New York University directly after graduation. She earned a Bachelor of Music from New York University.  She also sits on several non-profit boards that assist under-served communities.

Kari Frankenberger
Executive Assistant

Kari supports the firm’s CFO and CCO, and is involved in the firm’s administrative operations. Prior to joining the firm, Kari worked in administrative operations at American Securities. Previously, she served as administrative assistant at Sedgwick. Kari earned her A.A.S from Monroe Community College.

J. Ira Harris, Chairman of J. I. Harris & Associates
Consultant to AIM

A native of New York City, Mr. Harris graduated from the University of Michigan in January 1959 where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (B.B.A.).  He began his career in New York City in 1959, and then moved to Chicago in 1964 to become partner in charge of the Midwest operation of Blair & Company.  In 1969 he joined Salomon Brothers as a General Partner and served as a member of its Executive Committee from 1978 to 1983, and also served as a Director of Phibro-Salomon.  In January 1988 he joined Lazard Freres & Company as a Senior Partner and member of its Management Committee, where he remained until January 1998.  He then formed J. I. Harris & Associates, a financial consulting firm, and at the same time became Vice Chairman of The Pritzker Organization.

Mr. Harris has been, and continues to be, active in a wide variety of charitable organizations.  Mr. Harris is a Life Trustee of Northwestern University, Northwestern Memorial Hospital Corporation and the Museum of Science and Industry.  He is a Life Director of the Chicago Public Library Foundation, the National Center for Learning Disabilities in New York City, the Big Shoulders Fund for the Chicago Parochial School System and the Board of Directors of the Kravis Center of Palm Beach.  He is a Director of the Polk Brothers Charitable Foundation and the Palm Beach Civic Association.  He is a member of the University of Michigan Investment Advisory Committee and President’s Advisory Group, a member of the Kellogg Graduate School Advisory Board and serves on the Executive Committee of the Palm Beach Community Chest/United Way.  Mr. Harris is the Founding Chairman of Project HOPE (Harris Obesity Prevention Effort) at the Langone Medical School of New York University.

In the past, Mr. Harris was Vice Chairman of the Pritzker Organization, Director of the Chicago Community Foundation, and served on the boards of Manpower Corporation, Caremark Corporation & Watsco Corporation.

In 1967, Mr. Harris was selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Year by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Chicago.  He has also received the Community Leadership Award from Marillac House in Chicago, the Honor Award from the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Scopus Award from the American Friends of Hebrew University, the Silver Plaque Brotherhood Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Human Rights Medallion from the American Jewish Committee, the Horatio Alger Award and was an honoree of the Celebration of Philanthropy held by the Palm Beach County Community Foundation.  In 2009, he received the Distinguished Community Service Award from United Hospital Fund of New York City.  He was given the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in 2010, and most recently in April 2012 the University conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree upon him.
